Link Baiting - Effective?
"I'm a
controversial figure: my friends either dislike me or hate me."
Oscar Levant
It
can be effective if you answer YES to any of the following:
* You know how to write content
that other people will link to it...
means content that attracts people, interesting enough that a ton of
other people link to it.
* You
can do the above very often.
Link bait
is a great way to get great
links - but as you can imagine it's also not as easy as it may sound.
How
many of you can (especially if English is not your first language)
sit down and write something so controversial & interesting
that
others will link to it?
There is no doubt in my mind,
if you can create that content that
people will LINK to - it's the one of the best backlinks (one way
links) you will
get!
Even
though if you
are good at that, you need other link building
methods... so you also get links with anchor text of your choice. With
link baiting other people will like the article you've posted in your
blog so much that they'll link to it from their website.
This is easier said than done - especially now that folks read
information at lightning speed on the net.
Give it a test! Maybe you are talented...
But
link baiting is great way to get one way links - one way to start
is to look at social or story sites like Digg or Shoutwire stories.
Check out which stories got the most hits, the top stories in your
niche. What they are
writing about that you can "copy"?
If in
the SEO niche one of the hot topics IS maybe an article
controversial about pagerank. You can write one yourself on that topic
- making it better.
And
always make it easy for other people to link to your site. Put a Link to us page if
you are going to use this method. I suggest you at
least try to see if you can get some ideas and write something you
think is controversial & interesting.
You
do not have to
get it right - just test it out, and see how
it goes. Maybe you won't get links instantly, you may need to write 2-5
articles first. But after all content is all good, so you are not
"wasting" any time by testing this method out.
Of course you just put the article on your website or blog. Your site
should be getting traffic of course for this method to get you results.
If
you are creative, you get ideas quickly this is for you! Give it a go!
Either
case, adding content is something you should do to your website,
so next time instead of writing an article or
a tutorial write something INTERESTING and CONTROVERSIAL.
Finally
submit
that same article to article directories. If you've done it great, link
baiting technique will reward you with a lot more links than a "normal"
article.
Better news!
Link baiting is not just
articles, it's
anything that others will link to. It can be a free online tool, a cool
widget, gadgets for vista sidebar or other gadgets, heck even a cool
picture, a funny picture, toolbar... anything that
others will want to link to.
Have you ever linked to something you saw on the net? What was it, can
you create something like it?
